Works Description:

On the 13th of July HEBO assisted a Greek sea going tanker (248mtr). The tanker was positioned of the Dutch coast at Scheveningen and about to leave for the Port of Rotterdam. Just before departure it became clear that a big section of the anchor chain had become knotted. Because of the assistance offered by HEBO the tanker was able to make the tide and enter the Port of Rotterdam.

Mark van der Meer, incident coordinator explains: “At 1245 HEBO received the call an were asked if we would be able to come up with a solution for the knotted anchor chain and help the tanker to make its ATA at the MOT terminal”. A challenge for Mark and his team: “immediately the seagoing vessel Catharina 6 set course for the Greek tanker”. On arrival captain Martijn Saarloos of the Catharina 6 made contact with the captain of the Greek captain to consult and agree upon the action plan. It was agreed to hoist the anchor chain on deck of the Catharina 6, remove the knot using cutting torches and reconnecting the chain using spare shackles. All-in all the operations were completed at 1845, to the complete satisfaction of the captain and shipping company of the Greek tanker.
